Going Against the Odds

it's has been a dispointing week, The gunners had lost 3 matches in 3 different competions. Arsenal has been out of 2 major competitions in 4 days, the first was the carling cup , down 2:1 at the last 4 min of the game , the other was the FA cup , down 1:0 ALSO at the last 4 min of the game !!

Factors beginning last May of why we won't grab any silverware this year:

1-the loss of the holy grail with only 12 miutes left (CL Final)

2-the World Cup

3-last minute transfer activity

4-new stadium

5-no left-footed wide player(s) - RvP doesn't count

6-beginning the season with no Pires, no Cole, no Sol, effectively no Henry, no Ljungberg; 4-4-2 or 4-5-1?; the injuries; the Gallas mystery; the inconstancy of youth; Lehman's antics; Eboue's antics; Gilberto saving our bacon; ineffectual set plays; Question marks over Adebayor (till recently), Baptista, Aliadiere, Walcott, Senderos, Hoyte (less and less)

7-odd susceptibility to 'wonder goals' - McCarthy being the latest; our own missed penalties; missed sitters; average teams scoring on their only chance of the match; opposition goalkeepers playing blinders

8-the inconsistent refereeing (or consistently bad refereeing, which my impressions suggest have cost us more seriously than our opponents)

I suppose in a nutshell, we haven't been good enough to cope with all this , let's hope this phase won't take more time that it really should

5- People talking and giggling in movie theaters

6- People who double park and hold their hand breaks

7- People who insist on smoking in closed spaces

8- People who stop and ask for directions and leave without a greeting or a thank you

9- People who order “a too much sophisticated” coffee in coffee shops

10- Shop clerks who stalks you for fear that you might shoplift

11- People who think farting is cute

12- People who carry key chains of their first initial, drink in mugs with their first name initial printed on it

13- People who grow the nail of their pinky fingers

14- People who pick their ears with a key

15- Waiters/waitresses with a visible infection/burn/scar in their serving hand

16- People who don’t wash their hands after using the WC

17- Mechanics who think they are heart surgeons and Paintjob technicians (سمكرية) who think they are Picasos

18- People who fake an American or a British accent when they talk in English

19- Wust el ballad band followers, worshipers .. etc

20- Veiled women who wear tight clothes, make up of a porn star and too much accessories

As much as I like to think that women are independent human beings, I read more into life and religion and discover other wise.

No matter how strongly they deny it, women need men in their lives as much as I need a woman in mine, I’m not full of ego and pride to deny this natural fact. I’ll marry my future wife not for the common reasons people do marry for (companionship, sex and offspring ) but for this fundamental reason:

Leave the Kids Alone!

I know that most of you super dads and soccer mums won’t like this, but your children are overrated and overvalued, most parents have turned theirs into cult objects, they have a child fetish and it’s not healthy. Don’t tell me “well, I love my children”, EVERYBODY loves their children, doesn’t make you special.

What I’m talking about is this constant, mindless fixation that everything should revolve around children; it’s completely out of balance. The parents strive to make their child the best and insert their fears, insecurities and expectations in them, Mind this; not all children are smart and clever, Children are like any other group of people, a few winners, and a WHOLE lotta losers who are simply not going anywhere. So stop being overprotective cause it’s not in your hands and you are making them too soft.

An example of how people burn their kids on so called structure, School uniforms, bad theory, the idea that if kids wear uniforms in school it helps keep order, Don’t these schools do enough damage already? Making all these kids think alike, now they want them to look alike too?

Another example, more related to teens who parents think up to 19 years are still considered children! The smoking issue, kids do not smoke because it’s cool or some camel in sunglasses tells them to, they smoke for the same reasons adults do because it relieves anxiety and depression, and with all the identify crisis they go through at this age, it really helps. So don’t tell your child not to smoke, he won’t be convinced.

Embrace your child’s shortcomings, accept him as what he is, inspire them rather than preaching them. A person’s character is molded in the early days of his childhood years, help your kids be an effecient character, whether he goes on to lead a successful or a lousy life, at least he will grow to be a healthy person both psychologically and mentally.

5- The Government employee that collects electricity money
50% of the time he doesn't find people at home and they end up paying by themselves. Not to mention he has to deal with children, maids and all sorts of people which is psychologically draining.

4-Guys who distribute flyers and adds in traffic stops
1st of all he’s distracting you with his movement back and forth, he probably hits the flyer in your face “I once had a paper cut from one of these jerks”, The principle is stupid because out of 100 flyers distributed to car drivers; while driving may I add, only 7-8 persons take a look, half of those are interested in the add itself, half of those will actually call the add owner.. So as far as strategic marketing goes, the owner of the add spent money for 100 flyers and the guy’s one day job salary to approach 1 client!!

3- The guy that parks your car "El menadi" a.k.a "El sayes"
The fastest growing occupation in Egypt, "El menadi" practically he's the guy that yells "left" and "right" and "that's it" when you park your car, meaning he "pretends" to help you park your car when 1- you didn't ask for his help, 2- he practically did nothing and 3- I won't give em a pound for a 30 seconds worth of "talk". But beware, he's not expecting a tip... he's expecting to be payed!

2-The guy that works on an elevator
For the Love of God, is it a profession to press buttons? The user of an elevator must be really stupid or really really lazy to actually need one. Not to mention he will grow to be a claustrophobic.

And finally... 1st runner up is

1-The guy/boy that works in a bathroom, handing you tissues!!
Only MEN can relate to that, The idea that a person is actually paying attention to you while you use the facility/urinal is creepy, not to mention that in his troubled mind he thinks that the faster he gives you a tissue, the better quality his services are...

plus he smiles at you after you do your business, I don't want to share a moment with you, you creepy creature, don't smile at me like I’ve just climbed the Everest, my sense of accomplishment does not include peeing or pooping !!

Psychodelic funk overdrive

I don’t usually review my music, but I need to praise these guys for at least in one of my posts.

The red and very hot chili peppers (RHCP); one of my favorite bands of all time, released their most anticipated album “Stadium Arcadium” during the summer, a double CD named “Jupiter” & “Mars”.. a very risky move that proved later the status of where they stand in the history of music business.

It is funky, rockin' and rapping. I was a little skeptical about there being 28 songs. That is always a formula for disaster. For example - see Smashing Pumpkins. But I can honestly say there are only a couple snoozers on the 2 CDs. Most of the songs are fantastic. In summary, this is RHCP's best release in over a decade. It is a must buy if you are an old fan or are new to the RCHP's sound. I am really shocked they still had it in them to release something that sounds so good, they are 40+ something and they still rock.The main reason why I love this album though is because there's so much new sound mixed with so much old sound. It's like the Chili Peppers are evolving without losing what made us love them in the first place. And that's a hard thing for a band to do!.

I highly recommend watching their video “Danni California”on Youtube , they guys still got what it takes to dazzle minds.

when I counted out my demons ..

A very short list of what’s wrong "in one week period":

1- When your boss tells you to stay up late to supervise a lame ass event “talent show performed by 10 students !!!” and reassures you’ll have a ride back home “ my work is practically in the desert”, and you end up going home on your own anyways .. That’s crap.

2- When you go home to find out your cousin’s car has been smashed as a tin can because off some kid driving recklessly at 2 am in the morning... and he get’s away with it... that’s crap
“My cousin will get married next month, he bought his car after a 3 years saving for it”.

3- When you whole masters degree in on jeopardy because of some silly liable free paper that needs to be signed from the freakin university and they have been stalling it for monthes to date... that’s crap.

4- when your mother treats you like you are her 16 year old “daughter”, that’s whole lotta wrong...

5- when your don’t know where your career is heading to... that’s crap.

6- when a female friend asks your opinion on some guy who proposed to her, and flirts with you in the process... that’s crap.

7- when you carry out all the donkish work and not get appreciated while others advance because off their smiles and laughs... that’s crap.

8- when you are not in control anymore... that’s crap.

Super talent turns commercial

Everyone knows he’s a spectacular player, but when the media and the billion dollar sports giants like Nike and other cooperates portraits him as superman, I highly disagree.

Since Maradona, No body has dazzled the football fans all around the world with such a high quality display of talent, skill and originality the way Ronaldinhio did. No doubt he’s the new magician of the number one sport of all times, but he’s going through a critical phase where his focus and concentration has been affected, the reason? Fame and Publicity. Super Rony has been occupied with commercials and media exposure that he lost track of what’s important, his quality and output has been deteriorating even before the World cup 2006 which was the solid proof of his current level of commitment to the game, he did practically nothing to Brazil, the myth of the “one man show” had lost to the giant name of Zinedin Zidane, who was the inspiration of France and took the French to the finals.

Every player has his ups and downs, but with Rony... you know exactly why he’s in this phase. Get back to the game, Rony. Go back to the time when you use to smiling after each foul instead of cursing when someone challenges you for the ball. Go back to the beautiful game and do what you do best, entertain us.

Screw it, I'm getting out

I don’t belong here, I have this suffocating feeling that I must get out of here; this country is so full of distress that makes me want to puke. I’ll have to change my perspective and see if I can live abroad, Canada, Australia, even the states... I’d rather be a foreigner in any country than live as a citizen in this shithole.

I'll go this weekend and sign some immigration applications in a couple of embassies, and no thanks to ben laden, the process had become more and more complicated.

My reasons?? I have tons of fundamental reasons, but that’s for another time...

The Highlight of a Crapy Day

Today I had an off campus assignment to do, on my way back to campus I took a taxi who was bold enough to give me a ride to el sherook city at 2 pm on a Ramadan hot summer day. We agreed on 50 L.E … but when we actually got there, I had this compelling desire to give em more, I gave em a single 100 L.E banknote and I wished him a blessed day. You have to make life easier for somebody else, you must spread the idea that free kindness do exist, and it happens in the weirdest situations. I was planning to take what I paid from the university, but I guess I’m happy with this jester and I won’t do anything to degrade that thought.

Chapter 2

Well , it's semi-official .. I'm quitting my job , quitting industry may raise a lot of eyebrows especially when many at work see that I have potentials. Screw that, I ain't happy. First I didn't "mind" the type of work I'm in, then it it became unsatisfactory .. Then, unpleasant .. Finally, Boring and unmotivational .. I chose another line of career "my last resort I may add" and I hope I can achieve and succeed in a very tough and competitive field, Academics.

Farewell GSK, this is officially Chapter 2 in my career, some major decisions to make throughout the next year .. "I hope you're reading this".

Afraid? offcourse.. Confident? Don't know .. But I'm excited to take this challenge and see whether my stream of goodluck still flows . Thank you God , Thank you for not failing me not even once in my life.

I'm so mad right now , I hung to the words of a person I knew to be manipulative, basically cuz I like her as a person does not mean that I can forgive her for fooling me professionally .

"they'll contact you" she said , "I'm going to miss having you around" she said .. You don't toy with people's aspirations like that , I'm the kind of character that sets up the worse case scenario so that in case it happened , I'd be prepared .. But sometimes, you let your guard slip and you are a victim of your own imagination, what if .. And if only ..

There's a lesson to be learned here , actually there's many .. I'll try to list them so that I won't forget:

1. Do you trust what I trust? Me , Myself and I.

2. God is great and things do happen for a reason, I'll be a big person and accept the reality and my current status.

3. Women has no managerial skills whatsoever !!!!

4. I have to be initiative and not link one event with another (The sweetest thing).

5. Never take promises from people.

Romance Vs Friendship

Many of my friends are obsessed with girls... it's something I grew up despising, cuz I hate the way "boys" behave differently in the presence of "girls".

Today I witnessed two of my friends borderline-fighting about how they grow apart after one of them got pre-engaged "not engaged yet", in a way I understand that his mind was occupied with his new romance, but not calling for 2 or 3 weeks... that's just harsh.

Romance beats friendship anytime, anywhere, anyplace my friends. Your priorities change but I know mine won’t... I gave my "newly in-love" friend his space and guess what? He was the one to call "after 10 days that is", we are used to seeing each other 3 to 4 times a week. But hey I understand, my other "Angry" friend" didn't accept this new attitude but I explained to him how this is a universal fact and it's time for "him" to move in a new phase.

Life will be so much easier when you just understand how relationships work.

Elephant Vs Goat

The other day I was watching Nightline and CBS evening news and I was highly provoked by their reviews covering the Lebanon-Israel Conflict.

First of all, I gave up on politics years ago, I decided to go numb, but when martin beshir of nightline gives you a dramatic report of how an Israeli father was killed by Hizb Allah’s Katyousha and how two kids where wounded and probably scared for life in an despicable attempt to “extract” compassion and force tears out of a neutral recipient. This is just shameful.

What about Lebanese civilians? The American media bitches and whines and makes propaganda out of 20 Israeli victims and TOTALLY neglects the casualties among Lebanese who are 10 times more severe. DO you think that the Israeli soul is more superior to that of Arabs? If you are trying to be objective, cover both sides not maximize one part and not only neglect the other, but blame it for everything that’s been going on.

Lebanon is burning, 40% of it’s infrastructure is destroyed, more than 220 civilians died and more than 2000 wounded, Air striked around the clock... it’s like a fight between an elephant and a goat and you end up portraying the elephant as the victim. This is just wrong, and I felt awful about this biased coverage of the situation in Lebanon.

The peace process has officially failed.

Let more innocent people die.

Let’s watch it on TV.

Let’s breathe a sigh and switch the channel to “American Idol”.

As I go on with my life, day in and day out... I’ve developed a very positive habit since my childhood years, and that is to smile.

The Pink Effect ..

What I know about Pink


I don’t know exactly how to write this, the recognition of my favorite band of all time sounds a bit cliché. So if you want to really know what pink does do me and does to millions of fans all around the globe, read this:

I was around 15 or 16 years old when my cousin gave me a tape of pink floyd’s pulse (tracks from a great gig in the sky to run like hell), if you want to impress a first time listener, A great gig in the sky is the best track to start with. I was blown away by the content and the many magnificent ways this track is composed, then came Money... what the hell is that? Is that jazz? Blues? Rock? I couldn’t tell at the time, and then after a while came wish you were here which is without a doubt the best melodic acoustic guitar song ever made in the history of music, simple chords reflecting vividness at its purest form; and the sing along gave the song the right vibe. Comfortably numb came with a heavenly 4:30 guitar solo that I’ve been hearing for the last 10 years and I cannot get enough of it, shear brilliance. To wrap up the perfect live performance came Run like hell an intense track from their 1979 wonder album “the wall”. I was left dazed and confused for an hour, what did I just experiment? What was this narcoleptic journey to the end of my mind? My status then was best defined as “comfortably numb”.

The thing about pink floyd music is that it’s more that just tunes and lyrics. It’s an experience that you “fit in” through an entire album. A hypnotizing therapy that makes you understand and cope with a bigger picture. I don’t know about others fans but their music made me view the life in a different perspective.

Define Greatness

I’ve been browsing the blogs looking for a certain article and I came across this very good post that expresses exactly the reasons for my obseesion for football and for the one and only ,Theiry Henry. Only him and Garry moore's guitar gets me fired up. but this post is not only a recognition to my utter admiration to the french sensation, but also an explanation why guys like Henry will propably live forever???

Here it goes:

“Many people are good; few are great. At their best, sports show us what greatness is and inspire us to be better- to strive for the greatness which is as much part of the perfection of humanity as goodness is. Today, I sat and wore a TH14 replica jersey and watched the surpassing greatness which is the French soccer player Thierry Henry. If you’ve not seen him, you’re missing out- he almost single-handedly made me a fan of his sport, and he possesses the sort of terrifying and awesome- in the true, archaic sense of that word- greatness which is readily apparent even if you have no particular idea what’s going on in the game. This man is blessed with inhuman kinesthetic senses and agility, the speed of a track star, and an astounding ability to judge objects in motion equaled only by the best quarterbacks and basketball players.

I don’t know if Thierry Henry is a good man. He seems good enough- devoted to his wife and child, soft-spoken, dedicated, comes off very intelligent even in his second language- and I’ve no reason to suspect him to be any different than he presents himself. But I know that he’s great; greatness as a quality shines forth, and in sports finds a platform where it can be shown off to best effect. Many men have great reflexes, many men have great speed, many men (well, not many) have Henry’s sort of kinesthetic sense. Very few- maybe only one other in the world, Ronaldinho- have taken those gifts and honed them, married them to skill and used them to be truly great in their field. That’s what greatness is- the marriage of natural ability to hard, hard work and dedication. You can see it every time Henry blasts a free kick from far out into the upper corner with millimeters to spare; you can see it when Juninho blasts one from almost at the half line, when Ronaldinho slashes through a defense with a devil’s grin and an unbelievable shin-cracking dribble, when Jamie Carragher or John Terry lands a perfectly timed tackle, when Iker Cassillas or Gianluigi Buffon or Jens Lehmann make perfect flat-out diving saves. It’s fuckin’ amazing; it’s greatness.

How can that not inspire you? How can you watch that and not want to tear into the streets after greatness yourself? I’ll never meet Thierry Henry in my life, but he’s done me a huge favor just by being himself. I will never have a fraction of his kinesthetics, never be that fast no matter how much I run, never in my life be able to curl a ball that way. So what? My field is psychology, and some day I may be the best alive at that. I have the talent, and I work my ass off to get there. I do it for myself and for my sense of the good, but when things are hard on that road I look to the people who inspire me and no one does so more than Thierry Henry. Greatness isn’t about a given field- it’s about an approach, how you tackle life and your role in it, whether you grab hold with two hands or content yourself to drift along into the nearest safe harbor. Sports give us a chance to watch people competing for greatness with clearly defined rules on a huge stage; and that has value. When the guy in the next cubicle really nails that reports he’s been working on for a week, when a scientist really nails that new vaccine she’s been working on, that is also greatness, but it’s not publicly visible. When TH14 hits that ridiculous backheel goal he scored last year, it gets replayed a million times all over the world. Manchester United’s stadium, Old Trafford, is called “The Theater of Dreams”, and as pretentious as that sounds and is, it’s also basically true.”

3- The rich is getting richer, the poor is getting poorer. No social justice or comprehendible economy.
4- We are “as a nation” spineless, gutless, and we rather stick our heads in the sand than face our problems
5- We are a quick fix nation, we repair the crust when the root is so very deteriorated
6- The Egyptian citizen has no value whatsoever “inside & outside Egypt”
7- We have the potentials to be the best country in the world in all aspects but we choose to be lazy and stupid
8- We never take responsibilities and try to frame everyone else but the one in charge
9- We are never objective, we fear change and we are stubborn
10- if you don’t have a “wasta” then you have no future
11- Many people in high ranking posts have inferiority complex “cops?”
12- we’d rather do it “our way” rather than the right way
13- We claim to know everything “have you ever asked for directions and someone simply said, “sorry I don’t know?: “
14- Shallow minded, football players, singers and movie stars are the elite of the society, ironically they don’t contribute anything. In the entire Egyptian movie industry, I liked 2 or 3 films max. and don’t get me started on singers/dancers/performers/models/sluts
15- we lost sight of what’s important

The following concerns a question on a physics degree exam at the University of Copenhagen:
"Describe how to determine the height of a skyscraper with a barometer."

One student replied: "You tie a long piece of string to the neck of the barometer, then lower the barometer from the roof of the skyscraper to the ground. The length of the string plus the length of the barometer will equal the height of the building."

This highly original answer so incensed the examiner that the student was failed immediately. The student appealed on the grounds that his answer was indisputably correct, and the university appointed an independent arbiter to decide the case.

The arbiter judged that the answer was indeed correct, but did not display any noticeable knowledge of physics. To resolve the problem it was decided to call the student in and allow him six minutes in which to provide a verbal answer, which showed at least a minimal familiarity with the basic principles of physics.

For five minutes the student sat in silence, forehead creased in thought.
The arbiter reminded him that time was running out, to which the student replied that he had several extremely relevant answers, but couldn't make up his mind which to use.

On an Island?

If you are a Die hard fan of Pink Floyd, that is a must have album by David Gilmour, But let me warn you... This is not an album by Pink Floyd, This is an Album by Former member/Solo Artist David Gilmour, and after I heard the album for 3 consecutive days, It's has very little to do with Pink Floyd.


I had this album 2 weeks after I had David Gilmour in Concert (DVD) "which frankly, I much prefer than his new solo album”, In concert features a lot of Pink Floyd song with new arrangements, like the acoustic version of "Coming back to life" and the Chellos of "High hopes". So I was Forced in comparison between the 2 albums , On an island is unique in a way that only fans of Gilmour understand, it's an improved development since "About Face", His 1983 solo album, but not quiet different or diverse than it. I won't discus the album thoroughly, But I have to spell this out; I'm both relieved & disappointed, Relieved to see Dave active after almost a decade of hibernation yet disappointed that I’d rather see him, Rick and Nick get to the studio , come out 2 or 3 years later with a mind blowing Pink album , and after seeing Live8 , I thought there was still hope for Roger to re-join the band and re-write history again , but Alas , Roger had his opera later this year and Dave with his new album.

Bottom line, Go BUY the Album, you won't regret it... but you may get hurt listing to what could have been the next Pink Floyd, Not in term of music .. But in terms of "If Only if?".

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

Last week I watched the Chelsea Vs Barcelona in the champions league , the young Argentinean entertained us with fine football and great skills display. After the match reports allover the News and media talked about the young talent and he was the focus of attention for several days to follow, I thought Ronaldinhio has established the peak in football joy, but here comes another magician, and he’s only 18 yeras old.

However, Maradona said and I quote "I have seen the player who will inherit my place in Argentine football and his name is Messi." The young Barcelona player has performed well in La Liga and looked dangerous against Chelsea, but Maradona's comments put extra pressure on the 18 year old to perform.Just ask Ariel Ortega & Pablo Aimar.

Stranded on an Island .. seeking tunes

10 albums I would take with me on a stranded Island

Mmm... I asked myself this question as I spent a good 70 min ride to where I work; with my diskman being my true companion during this ride. That’s tough considering I have a lot of favorite albums, But then I thought I have to make a selection of albums that I won’t get bored of listening for 10 years or whatever years I’m going to spend on the island. My criteria I came up with “riding back another 70 min back home” is:

1.Since I can’t Pick a favorite Pink Floyd album, I won’t pick neither any of their albums nor any of their solo artists’ albums. The process of me selecting ONLY one album will be extremely harsh, even harder than the 10 years I‘ll spend on that island.

2.I’ll try to be as diverse as possible. My choices will include Pop, Rock, Alternative, Metal, Oldies

3.My choices will be based on how much I’ll enjoy the album for a long long time, meaning that this won’t have to be my favorite but rather “long-term amusing”.

Wet Wet Wet – Picture This (1995)

I came to know this band from the movie “4 weddings and a funeral” . Its title song was “love is all around me”, a beautiful, impressive, very touching song. A friend of mine bought the album for me as a present. The album plays out a very emotional feeling I can’t fairly describe. Musically, the album is one of the best Studio albums outhere, good job mixing with the instruments and the quality output of the entire album tunes is remarkable. The album stands out as one of the most coherent albums ever made in Rock/Pop music.

Ironically, the band didn’t get as much recognition as they deserve… at least for this album. I choose it in my short list because it always makes me in a state of relaxation and at “ease”.

Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde (1966)

Arguably, Dylan is considered the best lyrics writer in the history of music. I agree.
I can’t comment on this album , it speaks for it self.

W.A.S.P - Crimson Idol (1999)

“Long live the king of Mercy”

A Drama filling, Ear pounding concept album filled with plenty of vicious guitar riffs, don’t get me wrong, I’m not a big fan of WASP, but this album has a great storyline “I’m a sucker to albums with storylines such as Streets, The wall, Harbour of tears .. Etc”, this is the story of Jonathon battling with his own demons and figuring out the “Great misconceptions of me” .. That’s where I came up with my blog’s title.

I choose it on my list because I think it’s the “neatest” metal album ever made! I pick my words carefully, only people who listened to the album understand what I mean.

Bonjovi – These days (1995)

Jon, Ritchie, Brian, Tico. You reached the peak of your music career making this flawless album. Shear brilliance. It opens up with the provocative “Hey God” moving to melodic hits like “This aint a love song” and “these days” and ending with “diamond ring” and “bitter wine”. It’s this album and the great guitar work of Ritchie Sambora that motivated me to learn to play the guitar. Thanks Sambora

I choose this “All-Rock treat” album because I associate myself with it .. I’ve been listening to it for 10 years now and I can’t get enough of it.

Camel – Harbour of tears (1996)

First I’d like to say that I’m a big camel fan, it’s hard for me to pick a single album for my “cast-Away” experience. But I choose “harbour of tears” because of its harmony is unique in a full-album sense, I can’t find any camel album with this sense of harmony commitment. The albums tells an Irish tale “which I don’t fully understand” and has great instrumental tracks. I must confess that the reason I’m attached to this album is because I bought it at the perfect timing and in the perfect mood, I was then ready to receive their music like never before. Lucky me!

Favorite tracks: Under the Moon, Running from Paradise, Coming Of Age... wow, the album has great instrumental music.


Liquid Tension Experiment II (2000)

The most extreme technically challenging album of all time , forget jazz, this is the heaviest Progressive Rock album I’ve encountered. Imagine the “Gods” of Dream Theater decided to make a small project with the commitment only their top-notch talents and improvised new ways of “making” music. This is a turning point in music industry as we know it. This “project” will defiantly live forever .. That’s why it’s my pick

Meat Loaf – Bat out of Hell II (1993)

Meatloaf mixes rock with opera, the result is THIS, an album revolving on three axis, Piano, guitars, and Choir. Lead by a very distinctive voice of meatloaf speaking out his soul in form of beautiful beautiful lyrics, the kind of lyrics that makes your heart pound with his singing technique as a catalyst. Simply Awesome.

Michael Jackson – Bad (1987)/Dangerous (1991)

Michael Jackson is the king of pop.

Turn on page one in music history and you’ll find his name printed with gold. An extraordinary talent that only happens once in a lifetime. I grow up listening to Michael but I lost interest in him after the child molestation accusations. But the guy re-defined pop music that took the world by surprise. My favorites are both Bad and Dangerous, Both equally magnificent and show a lot of attitude and character.

Anathema – Alternative 4 (1998)

Very sad album that can make you commit suicide , not because of the lyrics but because of the music that sometimes sneak into your sub-conscience and other times rip you open forcing itself in your soul. It’s only 45min long. But has the effect of “echoes of silent cries” , dark isn’t it?

Def Leppard – Vault (1995)

80’s British Rock hysteria unmistaken for the talented/ill-talented/non-talented ear. Def leppard defines an era of rock that it totally mastered. I always think positive and “peppy” every time I hear them on the radio , Vault is a collection of their great songs during their 80’s and 90’s that simply RULE.

Favorite tracks: Two steps behind , Animal, Bringin’ on the heart break, Pour some sugar on me, love bites

As you can notice, Most of these albums are in the 90’s , that’s my teenage years , the golden years that both scar you and heal you in a mysterious way.
